Setter Operator

Job Description:

The Hadley Group requires a Setter Operator to work to strict safety and quality requirements, to achieve daily production requirements in terms of quality and quantity to meet customer expectations and requirements, whilst optimising efficiency and maintaining operational excellence.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Set production equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Control production processes to set tolerances.

  • Set roll feed, if required within production base/division.

  • Set leveller, if required within production base/division.

  • Identify and understand when to change Ultra steel gearing.

  • Set distance points between rolls and strip guides, according to specifications.

  • Install equipment such as guides, guards, gears, cooling equipment, and rolls, using hand tools.

  • Adjust and correct Ultrasteel passes to gain correct material thicknesses and eliminate defects.

  • Manipulate controls, observe, monitor and adjust, to set speed for optimum machine performance.

  • Observe gauges/indicators to make sure machines are working properly.

  • Assist other workers to remove and position equipment and feed material into machines.

  • Ensure efficient setting of equipment to produce "fit for purpose" product.

  • Examine, inspect and measure raw materials and finished products to verify conformance to specifications.

  • Ensure production paperwork is correctly completed.

  • Ensure all safety devices are in place and guard cards are signed off.

  • Complete quality checks.

  • Ensure product is manufactured to drawing spec/customer requirements.

  • Complete documentation, including correct product labelling.


  • Up to 3+ years setting experience
  • Industrial / Manufacturing experience


Qualifications Required:

  • Slinging  & Crane operation

  • Environmental training

  • Waste segregation

  • Spill kit training

  • Power Press Regs

  • Laser Safety - if required within production base/division.

  • Abrasive Wheel Training - if required within production base/division.

  • Able to set Rafts

  • Read, understand and interpret engineering drawings for basic and more complex products.

  • Use measuring equipment: Tape Measures, Verniers, Micrometers, Feeler Gauges

  • Able to set all types of pre-pierce presses

  • Able to operate ink jet printer

  • Able to change & set press tools and set all types of cut off equipment

  • Able to understand and carry out leveller setting (if required within production base/division)

  • Able to understand and set roll feed (if required within production base/division)

  • Coil welder operating if required within production base/division.

  • Standard mill setting/mill stripping

  • Overview of machines and tools, including their design, uses, need for repair and maintenance
